In a major setback to ex-DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, who was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in a corruption case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday refused to grant immediate relief to him.
Hours before Vigilance Bureau arrested him, Punjab’s former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi of the High Court refused to grant him immediate relief while Saini's application which has been sent to Chief Justice will be heard by other Justices.
Saini is seeking directions for the extension of blanket bail to him in all cases. He had earlier moved the High Court in November last year for extending the protection granted by the Punjab and High Court, vide order dated October 11, 2018.
Saini, who is facing allegations of human rights abuse during terrorism in Punjab, is also facing legal proceedings in two murder cases.
Despite pressure from the public on Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led state government and within his party to deal with Sumedh Saini strictly, he was never arrested.
