SC directs centre to hold meeting of CMs of Punjab and Haryana to resolve SYL issue

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the centre to hold a meeting of Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana to resolves the matter of Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) issue.

Meanwhile, the next hearing is likely to be held in the third week of August.

The Satluj Yamuna Link Canal Link is a proposed 214-km long canal in India which will enable the connection of Sutlej and Yamuna rivers. The link defines the water sharing between the states of Punjab and Haryana. However, the matter has been referred to the Supreme Court.

The SYL Canal was to be constructed for the effective allocation of water while the two states were required to construct their portions within their territories.
