Children in COVID-19: While many children in the country have got orphaned due to the devastating second wave of coronavirus in India, the Supreme Court on Friday directed the state authorities to immediately provide relief to them. The Supreme Court asked the state governments to understand the agony of children starving on the streets. It also directed the district authorities to immediately take care of them without waiting for any further orders from the courts.

A bench of Justices L N Rao and Aniruddha Bose directed the district administrations to identify the orphans and upload their data on the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) website by Saturday evening. Children in COVID-19: Supreme Court observes many children in the country have got orphaned due to second wave of coronavirus in India. It comes after an application filed by amicus curiae Gaurav Agrawal in the pending suo motu case sought identification of orphaned children due to the second wave of coronavirus in India or providing them immediate relief by the state governments. The apex court stated that the state governments must inform it of the position of these children. It also asked them to inform the steps being taken to provide them immediate relief. SC told the state government’s counsel that it hope they understand the agony of the children starving on the streets.
