Tallest Chenrezig statue in Sikkim for tourists from November 1 A 137- ft statue of Chenrezig in Sikkim is all set to woo tourists from November 1. It would be a new Buddhist pilgrimage site. The tallest Chenrezig statue in the world is placed at pilgrim site at Pelling, West Sikkim. It is situated at an elevation of 7,200 meters. This move will promote Sikkim as a Buddhist pilgrimage tourist circuit. The building of the tallest Chenrezig statue was a challenge for the engineers because of rough terrain. The project was started in 2009. Dalai Lama, consecrated the project in March, this year. Department of Culture and the Department of Buildings and Housing funded the project. They personally supervised the entire project.
