In a major incident, Pakistan Stock Exchange was attacked by four heavily armed militants on Monday morning. As many as 9 people were killed in an exchange of fire. Among those killed were four security guards and a police officer who were shot dead.
As per the report, the unidentified militants opened fire and hurled grenades at the main gate of a multi-storey building, Geo News reported.
Meanwhile, the police and Rangers’ officials rushed to the spot and killed all the four militants near the entrance gates. Also, the police recovered AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, magazines and other explosive materials. The police stated that the militants had come for a long siege.
Four security guards and a police Sub-inspector were killed in an order to defend the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) near Karachi’s I.I. Chundrigar Road, also known as Pakistan’s Wall Street. In the meanwhile, the building and the nearby areas have been sealed.
The Inspector-General of Karachi stated that the situation was under control and all the militants have been killed.
Sindh province Governor Imran Ismail took to Twitter and wrote: “Strongly condemn the attack on PSX aimed at tarnishing our relentless war on terror. Have instructed the IG & security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are caught alive & their handlers are accorded exemplary punishments. We shall protect Sindh at all costs.”
