Train derailment in Congo kills 24, mostly children At least 24 people were killed and 31 others were injured after a train derailed in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday. According to media reports, it was a freight train, therefore most of the passengers were stowaways. The derailment took place near 140km north of Kananga, one of Kasai province's main towns. A railway official told the media that the department has retrieved 24 bodies, mostly children. He further said that the toll is expected to rise as the wagons are still overturned. The rescue operation is underway.
