Unemployed members of linemen union climb atop water tank at Powercom HQs

Patiala: Unemployed members of Linemen Union Punjab climbed atop the water tank on Friday, located in the PowerCom headquarters. This sudden protest demonstration left the police in a tizzy situation. The unemployed linemen on the tank raised loud slogans against bureaucracy and management for cancelling exam meant to fill vacant linemen post. The protestors are demanding that the recruitment of 1690 assistant lineman posts by PowerCom be canceled on the basis of merit of apprenticeship as before. There is also a demand of increasing the 1,690 assistant lineman posts to 3,500. Apart from this, the organization is also demanding to increase the age from 37 years to 42 years in the posts of 1690 assistant linemen. Giving information in this regard, Malkit Singh, the leader of the unemployed lineman union, said that he has completed his apprenticeship in Powercom in the month of May. Immediately after this, instead of appointing about 800 linemen in PowerCom, an examination has been held for them. They have been sitting on dharna for the last few days demanding cancellation of this exam. As there is no hearing in this regard, some members of the union have climbed on the water tank of Powercom this morning. They said that they will continue to protest until their demands are met.
