Kiren Rijiju said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a review meeting over the preparation of athletes for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

“The PM has appealed to all to cheer for the athletes,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that the president of the Tokyo 2020 organising committee has ruled out cancellation or further postponement of the Olympics.

The clarification came as there were doubts among officials of city governments and medical experts whether the event can be held safely amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, the Union Sports Minister had urged the country to back its Olympics-bound athletes as they look to shine at the upcoming Games in Tokyo.
