UNSC allows Hafiz Saeed to access bank account on Pak plea

The United Nation Security Council on Thursday allowed Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief and the 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed access to his bank account, after Pakistan made a plea on his behalf. As per reports, the bank account had been frozed after the UNSC sanctioned Saeed under Resolution 1267 for having links with the Al Qaeda and Islamic State (IS). The UN Sanctions Committee said they had received a letter from Pakistan seeking permission to allow Hafiz Saeed access to his bank account for certain expenditure. The Chair said "no objection" and hence Pakistan's request was approved. Pakistan in its plea said that they received "an application from a Pakistani citizen" Hafiz Muhammad Saeed requesting to be allowed to the frozen funds in his bank account to cover necessary basic living expenses for himself and his family, Economic Times reported. The letter said that Saeed is having his pension in his account for his serving as a professor for 25 years in University of Engineering and Technology, from where he was retired in 1999. Now, he will be able to access 70,000 Pakistani Rupees for food and Rs 25,000 Pakistani Rupees for medicines and public utilities. Saeed is the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack and other attacks in India. Hafiz Saeed has been designated as the Global terrorist by United Nations, earlier this year. -PTC News
