Urmila Matondkar resgins from Congress Party, cites lack of leadership

Actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar, on Tuesday, resigned from the Congress party citing lack of purpose. Elaborating on her decision, she said, “My political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use me as a means to fight petty in-house politics instead of working on a bigger goal in Mumbai Congress.”

Matondkar contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North constituency, where she was defeated by BJP candidate Gopal Shetty, who got 7,06,678 votes. Urmila managed to get just 2,41,431 votes.
