First UP COVID-19 patient to receive plasma therapy dies of heart attack

The first patient in Uttar Pradesh, who received plasma therapy as an experimental treatment for coronavirus infection, died following a heart attack on Saturday. The patient has been identified as a 58-year-old doctor, who was admitted at the King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. As per the report, the doctor was on a ventilator for the last 14 days. He died on Saturday evening following a heart attack, KGMU Vice-Chancellor M L B Bhatt stated. He was under the continuous observation of doctors in the isolation ward followed by high blood pressure and diabetes. “The patient was in stable condition. His lungs had improved, but he later developed a urinary tract infection. Two reports of his samples came out negative (for COVID-19),” the Vice-Chancellor said. However, he suffered a heart attack around 5 pm. Despite all the efforts, he could not be saved, he added. He was administered the plasma donated by a doctor from Canada who was the first coronavirus patient admitted at the hospital and later recovered. However, his lungs, improved. He was on the ventilator since he was an old patient with diabetes. Convalescent Plasma Therapy is an experiment for treating COVID-19 patients. In this, plasma, a blood component, from a recovered patient is transfused to a critically ill COVID-19 patient. -PTC News
