The newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Tirath Singh Rawat, stirred a controversy saying that women wearing ripped jeans send the wrong message to society and children.
Ripped jeans are a result of the “bad example” parents set for children that also leads to substance abuse, said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat during a workshop on substance abuse.

“Jab unki taraf dekha to neeche gumboot they, jab aur upar dekha to ghutne fatey they, haath dekhe to kai kade they… Bachhey do saath me unke they. Maine kaha behan ji kahan jana hai… Delhi jana hai, husband kahan hai… JNU me professor hain, tum kya karti ho… main ek NGO chalati hun. NGO chalati hain, ghutne fatey dikhte hain, samaj ke beech me jaati ho, bachhey saath me hain, kya sanskar dogi? (She was wearing boots, jeans were ripped on the knees with several bracelets on her hands. She had two children with her. Her husband was a professor in JNU and she runs an NGO. Wearing jeans ripped at the knees, she moves in society, along with children. What values you will teach?)” he said during the workshop organised by the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
Even as he said that the western world follows us, doing yoga… covering body properly. "And we run towards nudity,” the newly-appointed Uttarakhand chief minister said.
