18th Asian Games: Vinesh Phogat wins Asian Games gold, Big win for men's hockey team

18th Asian Games: Vinesh Phogat becomes first Indian woman wrestler to win Asian Games gold, Big win for men's hockey team Vinesh Phogat created history in the 18th Asian games on Monday by becoming the first ever Indian woman wrestler to win Asian Games gold. Haryana's Vinesh, youngest of Phogat sisters, got the better of  Irie Yuki of Japan in the 50kg final to win India's second gold medal. Incidentally, it is also the second gold in wrestling as Bajrang Punia had won a gold yesterday.

Sakshi Malik (62 kg) and Pooja Dhanda(57 kg)  lost their bronze medal games.
On her way to final, Vinesh avenged her Rio Olympic games defeat at hands of  Y N Sun of China by defeating her on points in the first round. Vinesh won 8-2. In quarterfinals, she beat Kim Hyungiao of Korea by technical superiority.
She continued her superb form in the semis as well where she registered an equally emphatic technical superiority win over  Yakshimuratova Daulatbike.
No Indian woman wrestler has ever won Asian Games gold medal before Vinesh.
There were four Indian woman wrestlers in the fray today. While Pinki lost in a one-sided bout, others - Vinesh, Pooja Dhanda and Sakshi Malik - advanced to quarterfinals and qualified for semis.
While Vinesh made it to the gold medal round, Sakshi and Pooja lost semis and had to play for the bronze medal.
Sakshi took her semi-final fight to the last second and lost her technical protest after a narrow 7-8 defeat to Kirghistan wrestler Aisuluu.
She lost to North Korean wrestler  Rim Jung Sim on technical superiority in the bronze medal playoff.
Pooja Dhanda, however, was no match to her North Korean opponent Jong Suk and lost due to the technical superiority of her opponent.
Pooja lost her bronze medal bout to Katuki Sakagami of Japan on points.
In the men's section in 125 kg category, Sumit who lost to Parviz of Iran on technical superiority made it to the bronze medal round through repechage.
In men's hockey, India made mincemeat of the hosts, Indonesia. Scoring five goals in the first quarter and four in the second quarter, the defending champions had run up a comfortable 9-0 lead till the breather.
Within four minutes of the second half, the tally swelled to 12-0. By the end of the third quarter, Indians took the lead to  13-0.
Dilpreet, Mandeep, SV Sunil, Harmanpreet, Vivek Prasad, Simranjeet Singh, were among scorers in a one-sided match.
