India skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday replaced Australia's Steve Smith at the top of International Cricket Council's (ICC) Rankings for Test batsmen, following his tally of 200 runs in the opening Test against England at Edgbaston.

Kohli thus became the seventh India batsman and first since Sachin Tendulkar (in June 2011) to be ranked the number one Test batsman in the latest ICC rankings. He overtook Steve Smith after his performances in the recently concluded Edgbaston Test against England, and has now become the seventh Indian overall (the first since Sachin Tendulkar in June 2011) to occupy the top spot in Test cricket. Kohli leads Steve Smith by 5 points, after gaining 31 points through his performances at Edgbaston. Smith was the top ranked batsman in Test cricket for the last 32 months, before Kohli displaced him in the rankings which were announced by the ICC this morning.
