Vitality Hockey Women's World Cup : England held to 1-1 draw by the United States
Defending Olympic champions and the hosts England were held to 1-1 draw by the United States in the Vitality Hockey Women's World Cup in London on Wednesday. The draw, the second for England, puts the home team in a tight spot as it remains winless in two games. The game, which was 200th for Alex Danson of England, saw her scoring the all important goal for England in the 34th minute. But the lead was short lived as the United States scored a gem of an equaliser when Erin Matson pelted in a powerful reverse flick from the top of the circle in the 39th minute to make the score one all. USA had lost its opener to Ireland 0-3 and was thus was left with one point from two games. The US-England game was crisp that brought out best of the two teams and saw many scoring chances for either side. Both sides had three penalty corners each. Other teams in the pool are Ireland and India. Ireland with three points and India with one point will face each other tomorrow.
