Protesting against the regularisation policy regarding 8,886 teachers of Adarsh schools, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), a large number of teachers on Sunday were stopped from marching to gherao Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh residence, with police resorting to lathicharge and using water cannons.

The protesting teachers reached near Patiala Bus stand , where police had already put barricades to stop them. However, teachers insisted upon moving on , which lead to scuffle between police and the protesters ensued . The enraged teachers also threw the barricades aside.
