WhatsApp developing message reactions for iOS, Android
WhatsApp's plan to bring iMessage-style message reactions to the platform appears to be nearing completion.
According to MacRumors, WhatsApp has been working on message reactions, also known as "Tapbacks" in Apple Messages, for a long time, with hints of their development first appearing last summer. The new feature allows users of the messaging app - Whatsapp to respond to messages quickly and easily without having to type out a longer text-based response.
Early rumours that WhatsApp will be getting message replies hinted that the feature's functionality and design hadn't been fully fleshed out, but the latest leaked images give users a better idea of how they'll work.

WhatsApp users will see a new row of emojis just above a message, similar to the feature in Facebook Messenger, however, it's not clear from the images whether this is after a long press or the click of a new button.
Thumbs up, heart, face with tears of joy, face with open mouth, crying face and folded hands are the six emoji currently available for the latest message reaction feature. When a reaction is selected, it appears below the message in a smaller profile.
Notably, Facebook Messenger includes a plus button in its reaction options that allow users to access a full emoji picker, but this does not exist in the WhatsApp leaks at this time, and it is unclear whether one will be included later.
According to the report, WhatsApp seeks to add message reactions to both iOS and Android in the near future, maybe in a beta before being released to the general public. The reactions, like the messages shared on the platform, will be encrypted end-to-end.
