Besides predicting cold wave conditions in parts of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) urged the residents of North India to protect themselves from the biting cold by avoiding alcohol. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that drinking alcohol won’t be a good idea amid cold wave conditions in north India including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. The IMD, in an advisory, asked people not to drink alcohol as it reduces the body temperature. It further stated, “Get indoors, eat vitamin-C-rich fruits and moisturize your skin regularly to counter the effects of severe cold." IMD also stated that the weather conditions are likely to increase the risk of contracting illnesses like the flu. It could also lead to symptoms like runny and stuffy nose and nosebleeding. To avoid such a reaction to the cold wave, the IMD shared a list of recommendations that included avoiding alcohol as it “reduces your body temperature”. Besides predicting cold wave conditions in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, IMD urged North Indias to avoid alcohol. The department also said that a “severe” cold wave was expected over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and northern Rajasthan from December 29. Earlier in the day, the IMD said that "Minimum temperatures have fallen by 1-2℃ over Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi and by 3-5℃ over Rajasthan during past 24 hours." "Lowest minimum temperatures recorded at 8:30 am today is 0.6℃ over Churu followed by Narnaul & Ludhiana having temperatures 1.6℃ & 2.1℃ respectively," IMD added. -PTC News
