Will give my best in Champions Trophy: Shami

New Delhi: Right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami has insisted that he has worked really hard on his fitness and skills in the last two years and will be looking to give his best in the upcoming Champions Trophy beginning June 1 in England and Wales. Shami, who last played for India in an ODI, back in 2015 World Cup, has been included in the 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy and thus is looking for a fresh start in the 50-over format. "I am coming to ODI cricket after a long gap of two years. Coming from the injury I have focused on my fitness, I have lost weight and have worked on my weaknesses. I want to perform well in the Champions Trophy and I want to start from where I left. I want to give my best," Shami said. The 27-year-old is currently playing for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he feels that IPL games will be providing him with a great match practice in as he prepares for the marquee event. "It would be a good thing for me that I am playing in IPL as it will give me the match practice required for the Champions Trophy." The right-arm pacer hopes that the quartet of him, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah would be able to perform well in England. "I think we have a very good pace attack for the Champions Trophy. I think India has one of the best pace attacks. We have to work together and help each other in the team. We have to focus as to how much we can guide each other. We are looking forward to the tournament," he said. Commenting on the chances of India retaining the Champions Trophy, the pacer said, "100 percent India can win the Champions Trophy. We will try to give our best and will give more than our 100 percent." —ANI
