Participation of Jagdish Singh here was not without a controversy as there was a tug of war between the Indian Olympic Association and the Winter Games Federation of India over the accompanying coach. Jagdish had to skip his original flight to Seoul but subsequently when the name of a mutually acceptable coach was announced, Jagdish travelled and was in time for hoisting of Indian flag in the Games village on February 8.

The event was won by D. Cologna of Switzerland while Simen H. Krueger of Norway finished second and Denis Spitsov (Olympic Athlete Russia) was placed third in the race held in comparatively sunny and less windy day.
With Jagdish Singh failing to finish among top 100, India's challenge in the Games has ended. Only other Indian athlete here was Shiv Keshavan who finished 34th in Luge. Jagdish Singh had started skiing only after joining Army. For him Olympic participation was a major achievement.
