Work on Kartarpur Corridor suffering due to Congress govt failings - Harsimrat Badal
Union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said work on the Kartarpur Corridor was suffering due to the Congress government’s failings and asked it to get its act together to ensure speedy completion of the prestigious project.

In a statement here, Mrs Badal said it was surprising that chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh was unaware of the lax and indifferent functioning of his government which had delayed the project by nearly one month. She said despite the fact that a meeting was held on December 12 under the chairmanship of the State additional chief secretary in which the most ideal alignment for construction of the Corridor was finalised, the Punjab government failed to send the minutes of meeting with decisions taken to the Central government. “The minutes of meeting and decisions taken thereon were received by the centre only two days back. Despite this inordinate delay the NHAI has gone to work immediately on the project and has finalised the ‘khasra’ numbers which are to be acquired for the Corridor. The information for the same will be shared with the Punjab government in the next forty eight hours so that land acquisition for the project may start immediately”.

The union minister advised Capt Amarinder Singh to take periodic meetings of work progress of the Kartarpur Corridor so that lapses like failure to despatch details of decisions, including final alignment, did not occur again. “It would be best if responsibility for this lapse is also fixed so that it does not occur again”, she added.

Giving further details of the entire issue, Mrs Badal said the centre’s pro-active role could be seen from the fact that it first appointed a consultant for the project. She said following this the most feasible alignment for the project was chosen. “Subsequently the executing authority has also been chosen and even the Khasra numbers which are to be acquired have been identified”.

Mrs Badal also asked Capt Amarinder not to politicise a sacred issue which concerned the sentiments of the Sikh community worldwide and extend unstinted cooperation to the NDA government’s efforts to complete the Corridor this year on the eve of 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. “The Congress government should not be found wanting in facilitating the construction of this historic Corridor”, she added.
