Donald Trump speaks to Russian President Putin, Zelenskyy; urges leaders to de-escalate

The dialogue followed Putin's congratulatory message wherein he expressed his desire to engage in talks and restoring US-Russia ties and working towards ending the war in Ukraine.

Donald Trump speaks to Russian President Putin, Zelenskyy; urges leaders to de-escalate

PTC News Desk: Two days after the poll victory, US President-elect Donald Trump had a conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin. The leaders discussed the Russia Ukraine conflict situation while Trump urging Putin to de-escalate.

The dialogue followed Putin's congratulatory message wherein he expressed his desire to engage in talks and restoring US-Russia ties and working towards ending the war in Ukraine. However neither Russia nor US have addressed the development.

Before the conversation, Russian President Putin emphasised the desire to restore the diplomatic ties between both the nations asserting, "Don’t think it’s wrong to hold a call with Trump. If some world’s leaders seek to restore contacts, I’m not against it. We are ready to speak to Trump."

“About the desire to restore relations with Russia, to help end the Ukrainian crisis, in my opinion, deserves attention at least," he stressed.

Putin also described Trump as 'brave man' owing to his handling of assassination attempt survival. Before Putin, Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while taking a potshot over US military and financial assistance to Ukraine and underscoring the need to swiftly end war. Tech billionaire Elon Musk also joined the call with Zelenskyy, who reported told Zelenskyy that he would continue to provide a Starlink satellite internet connection to Ukraine.

Trump will take office on January 20 after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election.
