Protests in Libya: Libya's Prime Minister has suspended the foreign minister after her meeting with the Israeli counterpart sparks unrest. Libya, a staunch supporter of Palestine, witnesses demonstrations due to the meeting challenging its non-recognition of Israel.

Israeli FM Eli Cohen views this meeting as a historic step towards establishing ties with Libya. Israel seeks stronger relations with Arab and Muslim-majority nations that haven't formally recognized it.

However, Libya's presidential council, representing its provinces, deems normalization with Israel unlawful. Libya's parliament accuses Najla Mangoush of grand treason, and PM Abdul Hamid Dbeibah initiates an inquiry. This Israel-Libya dialogue is surprising as Libya has historically opposed Israel, especially under Muammar Gaddafi.

The Israeli announcement outlines the meeting's details and acknowledges Italy's foreign minister for hosting it in Rome. Contrary to Libya's portrayal of the meeting, Israel states it was planned in advance, prompting debates on transparency.

Israel opposition leaders criticise the foreign ministry's handling of the matter, labeling it irresponsible and flawed. In the meeting, Cohen discusses potential relations and aid, Jewish heritage preservation, and humanitarian issues.

Libya contradicts Cohen, stating the encounter was unprepared and that Mangoush had declined an official meeting. Protests arise in Tripoli and other cities as the news spreads, displaying Palestinian flags and blocking roads. Libya's political division complicates any potential Israel-Libya deal due to the split between the Tripoli and Tobruk governments.

Israel has sought formal ties with Arab League nations through the Abraham Accords, causing Palestinian backlash. The Libyan Presidential Council questions the government's actions, calling for clarification and accountability.
