Wrestler and BJP leader Babita Phogat resigned from her post in Haryana Police on Thursday. “I joined the party and you can only do so after submitting a resignation, failing which it would be a conflict of interest. I submitted my resignation in August,” said Babita, whose resignation has been accepted by the state police.

Babita resigned on August 13 this year. She joined the BJP with her father Mahavir Singh Phogat in the presence of Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju on August 12. Babita won the gold medal in the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games. She also won a Bronze medal in the 2012 World Wrestling Championships.
Along with Babita, her father also earned accolades for setting an example of empowerment in a deeply patriarchal society by backing his daughters to the hilt. As per media reports, she is likely to contest elections on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections.
