New Delhi, Jul 19 (PTI) The water level in Yamuna in Delhi has crossed the warning mark due to discharge of water from a barrage in Haryana even as the Delhi government has deployed several motor boats to evacuate riverside dwellers.
"Due to discharge of large volume of water from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana, the water level in the Yamuna has gone up to 204.32 m, as recorded at 9 PM," a Central Water Commission official said.
The warning level for Yamuna is 204 m and the danger level 204.83 m. The highest water level of 207.49 m in Yamuna was recorded in 1978.
"The water level initially rose, but since rains have not taken place that much, the water level is receding," the official said.
"Wazirabad Barrage is releasing 58,000 cusec while Okhla Barrage is releasing 38,000 cusec. Water level is likley to go down from late night onwards," he said.
On Saturday, 1,60,000 cusec water was released from Hathni Kund Barrage, officials said.
The Irrigation and Flood Control Department of the city government had last week deployed 18 motor boats in areas including Badarpur, Burari, Soniya Vihar, Jagatpur, Surghar, Wazirpur, Boat Club, Geeta Colony, Shamshan Ghat, Haithi Ghat, Chilla Village, Mayur Vihar, Batla House, Kalindi Kunj and Bawana Nehar.
It had also directed that the boats be not shifted from these locations till further orders
