Patiala, August 9: Fulfilling their long-pending demand, the Punjab Government has increased the stipend of resident doctors in the state by nearly Rs 17,000. The doctors had been seeking an increase in their stipend for the last almost 11 years. As per the revision in the stipend, Punjab senior and junior resident doctors will now be drawing more salary every month. The salary of junior resident in Punjab has been increased to Rs 67,968 from Rs 51,000 earlier, while that of senior residents has been raised to Rs 81,562 from Rs 65,000. Now, Punjab doctors will be getting more stipend than their counterparts of neighbouring states such as Rajasthan. 11 years on, Punjab raises stipend of resident doctors by Rs 17,000 On the other hand, Haryana, New Delhi and Chandigarh are still paying better to their resident doctors. Junior resident doctors in Haryana and Delhi were getting a stipend between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1 lakh, said sources.
