Ropar soldier Gajjan Singh's body returns wrapped in Tricolour

Ropar soldier Gajjan Singh was among five Army personnel who were martyred in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir during an encounter with militants.

Sepoy Gajjan Singh was the youngest among four sons of Charan Singh of nearby Pachranda village. He was the first person in the farmer family to join the forces six years ago.

His father and three brothers work as farmers. Hundreds of people from the area, including former Cabinet Minister Daljit Singh Cheema, Ropar DC Sonali Giri and SSP Vivek Sheel Soni, visited the aggrieved family on Wednesday.

Gajjan Singh's newly married wife has been in shock while his father Charan Singh was finding it difficult to even talk to the visitors.

As per the report, Gajjan had last came home in February for marriage when the farmers’ protest was at its peak.

He was pained to see the plight of farmers sitting on roads during winter, Charan Singh said.

He further said that Gajjan expressed solidarity for farmers by carrying the flag of the Kirti Kisan Morcha.

Tributes paid to soldiers martyred in Poonch

Gajjan also walked around the village with his newlywed wife immediately after returning home with the marriage party to register his protest against the farm laws.
