British govt wins key parliament vote on Brexit 'no deal'

British Prime Minister Theresa May avoided a major defeat Tuesday after MPs rejected a plan that would have given parliament a veto over the final Brexit deal -- but only after making concessions.

The House of Commons voted by 324 to 298 to overturn an amendment to the EU (Withdrawal) Bill which would have removed her power to unilaterally walk away from talks with Brussels, sending the bill back to the unelected House of Lords. (AFP)
