Haryana to reopen schools from July; colleges and universities from August

While the central government has lifted several lockdown restrictions, the Haryana government has decided to re-open schools in phases from July and the colleges and universities in August, the state Education Minister Kanwar Pal said.

Kanwar Pal said that the schools to reopen in July in a phased manner, starting with classes 10, 11, and 12, followed by classes 6, 7, 8, and 9 and then 1 to 5. "For social distancing, the schools to function at 50 percent strength. In a class of 30 students, 15 will come in the morning and 15 in the evening or alternate days," he said.

He added that "We will be conducting a demonstration in 4-5 schools to prepare and better the plan. The colleges will re-open in August with first-year commencing from September. The universities will take rest of the decisions," he said.

He said that the government has got the guidelines from the Union government regarding the resuming of teaching activity in schools. The decision to reopen schools has been taken accordingly and we will open schools from July, he added.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on May 30 issued its Unlock 1.0 guidelines in which it stated that the schools, colleges, training institutes, and coaching institutes can reopen in Phase II of lockdown 5.0 after the approval of state governments. The decision on opening schools will be taken after consultations at the institutional level with parents and other stakeholders, the MHA stated.
