The Jammu and Kashmir Police adopted a new strategy to nab stone-pelters in action by planting its men among them at the Jama Masjid downtown.

As the crowd swelled to over 100, two stone-pelters started leading the agitation. The first tear gas shell was then lobbed, dispersing the mob. The two were grabbed by policemen, covertly placed in the crowd, and whisked away in waiting vehicles.

The policemen also flashed toy guns to scare others at the stone pelting site.

The protest soon fizzled out as the protesters were caught unawares. This strategy was earlier adopted in 2010.
