Labrador sworn-in at state attorney office in Chicago to help assault victims

A two-year-old Labrador Retriever named Hatty was sworn-in at the state attorney's office in Chicago earlier this week. The Labrador will be part of the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Unit and will comfort victims as they navigate the criminal justice system.

In line with her human colleagues, Hatty will work a 9-to-5 shift. Her KRA is easing the stress on young children who have been subjected to crime and assault.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday and was presided over by Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx. Pictures of Hatty with her paw over a law book as she took oath have gone viral.

Hatty is the first dog ever in Cook County States's attorney office to be trained by Duo Dogs. Sources said she trained in a men's prison earlier this year. She will handle 150 to 200 cases in one year.

Cook County State’s Attorney Office took to Twitter and said: "A trauma-informed approach begins with understanding the physical, social and emotional impact of trauma on the individual. We are proud to have a resource like Hatty to provide a source of comfort for victims as they navigate this difficult process."
