PTC Web Desk: The grief of losing her only son has left Inna Makan shattered and she says no apology can ease the pain. Her 23-year-old son, Sahil Dhaneshra, was killed in a road accident in Delhi’s Dwarka on February 3 after his motorcycle collided head-on with a Mahindra Scorpio allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy.

Responding to the teen driver’s father, who recently expressed regret in a television interview, she questioned the meaning of such an apology. “Sorry for what? For ending my life?” she said, adding that words of regret cannot restore what she has lost. “If this had happened to his child, would he accept an apology? My mornings and evenings are gone. I have no reason left to wake up,” she said, standing beside her son’s photograph.

Sahil was preparing to move to the United Kingdom for higher studies and had secured admission for a postgraduate programme. The accident ended those plans instantly. According to the police, he died on the spot after the collision.

The juvenile accused was sent to a correctional facility but was later granted interim relief to appear for his Class 10 board examinations. The decision has triggered debate, particularly as public anger grows over repeated cases of minors being involved in fatal crashes.

Adding to the controversy is a video reportedly recorded from inside the SUV moments before the collision. The footage, allegedly captured by the accused’s sister who was seated beside him, has led to claims that the siblings were shooting content for social media at the time of the crash. The teen’s father has denied that they were making a reel, stating that his daughter was only taking pictures and recording a video.

Inna Makan, who has raised Sahil alone since her husband’s death in 2018, says her world revolved around her son. She described the incident as a “fun reel” that destroyed her life. Now, she plans to wind up her real estate business and devote herself entirely to pursuing justice.

The teen driver’s father, a businessman dealing in commercial vehicles, said he was out of the city when the accident occurred and returned immediately after receiving a call from his wife. He claimed he was unaware that his son had taken the vehicle and said the teenager did not possess a driving licence.

“I am also a parent. It was a mistake. I am deeply sorry,” he said, adding that his son is in shock. He also highlighted his son’s academic record, claiming the boy has won numerous awards at school and maintains high attendance and strong grades.

The incident has once again intensified calls for stricter enforcement of laws against underage driving and raised questions about parental responsibility.
