India to serve summons to LeT chief Hafiz Saeed in Lahore for trial in absentia
PTC News Desk: India is set to serve court summons on Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed in Lahore through diplomatic channels as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) moves forward with legal proceedings against him in connection with the 2025 Pahalgam Terror Attack case.
According to government sources, the summons will be sent through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). A special NIA court had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant against Saeed.
The NIA filed a supplementary chargesheet against Saeed in July 2026, accusing him of being involved in the conspiracy behind the Pahalgam terror attack and waging war against India. He has been named both personally and as a key leader of LeT and The Resistance Front (TRF).
A special court in Jammu later issued a non-bailable warrant against him, starting a legal process that could eventually lead to Saeed being declared a proclaimed offender.
The summons is being sent to formally give Saeed an opportunity to appear before the Indian court. The documents are expected to be routed through the MEA and Pakistan's Foreign Ministry via the Indian High Commission.
If Saeed fails to appear despite being officially summoned and the required legal process is completed, Indian authorities may proceed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which could allow a trial in absentia, meaning the trial could continue even without his presence in court.
