Hundreds gather at London Gurdwara for Satluj screening days after global takedown

PTC News Desk: Hundreds of people gathered in the car park of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha in Southall, London for a free open-air screening of the film 'Satluj'. According to West London's local media platform UB1UB2, the screening was organised by the gurdwara on Sunday evening.
The video of the screening is doing rounds on social media showing men, women, elderly and children sitting together as the crowd keeps increasing for the screening.
The film has also been screened at several gurdwaras in Punjab and Delhi.
Despite the movie's takedown from Zee5 two days after its release and subsequent global removal, screenings of Diljit-Dosanjh starrer is being held at multiple locations in both India and abroad in a bid to exapnd the movie's outreach.
As public screenings of the film continue across Punjab, political parties are also using the events to connect with people and build support. Gurdwara committees, youth clubs, political parties, and other organisations have hired projectors and mini-trucks to hold screenings in different areas.
Meanwhile, a government panel reviewing the film has decided to continue the ban on its online streaming, citing national security concerns. The panel relied on a 2023 decision of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which had refused to clear the film—then titled Ghallughara—unless 127 cuts were made.
The filmmakers had challenged the CBFC's decision in court but did not get relief. They later withdrew the case in July 2025 and released the film under its new title, Satluj, on ZEE5 on July 3.
However, the Inter-Departmental Committee (IDC) ordered the film to be taken down on July 5. The committee later met with the filmmakers and ZEE5 to ask how a film that had earlier been flagged by the CBFC was allowed to stream online.
