According to the police, new evidence has indicated that Agarwal's fatal plunge into the valley was not an accident but an act of planned murder. The conspiracy, according to police, was hatched by Aggarwal's fiancee, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover Chetan Chaudhary.
The deceased, Ketan Vishal Agarwal, a resident of Gahunje near Pune city, was set to get married in November this year. He was a director in his family's real estate firm.
What was initially believed to be a tragic accident has now taken a dramatic turn after police alleged that the victim was deliberately pushed to his death.
On June 19, police reported that 26-year-old Agarwal had apparently lost his balance near a cliff in the Lonavala area amid strong winds. According to the initial account, he was taking photographs at around 10:30 a.m. when he slipped and fell nearly 400 feet into a valley.
Inspector Dinesh Tayde of the Lonavala Rural Police Station said that members of the Shivdurg Mitra Emergency Rescue Team, along with police personnel, carried out a challenging three-hour rescue operation to recover Agarwal's body from the gorge. A case of accidental death was initially registered, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination while an investigation was launched.
However, on Tuesday, police disclosed a shocking development in the case. Investigators now allege that Agarwal's fiancée and her male friend intentionally pushed him into the deep gorge and then tried to pass off the incident as an accidental fall.
The revelation has transformed the case from an accidental death investigation into a suspected murder probe, with police continuing to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding Agarwal's death.
