PTC Web Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the Lok Sabha on Tuesday during the Monsoon Session, asserted that the terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam had definitive links to Pakistan. His remarks were in response to Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram, who had questioned the origin of the militants involved in the attack.

Amit Shah revealed that concrete evidence had been recovered from the slain militants, including Pakistani voter ID numbers and chocolate wrappers, clearly marked "Made in Pakistan." He said this material provided irrefutable proof that the terrorists were not homegrown but had infiltrated from across the border.

“Yesterday, Chidambaram ji questioned us — where did the terrorists come from? Who was responsible? I want to ask him — what will he gain by defending Pakistan?” Shah stated in the House. “Such questions amount to giving a clean chit to Pakistan.”

The Home Minister further confirmed the identities of the three terrorists — Suleman, Afghan, and Jibran — killed in the operation on Monday, stating the mission was executed based on accurate intelligence inputs under Operation Sindoor, a counter-strike in response to the brutal killing of 26 civilians in Baisaran valley earlier this month.

What Chidambaram said

In an interview with The Quint on July 27, P Chidambaram questioned the government's narrative, suggesting the attackers could potentially be homegrown terrorists. He criticised the Centre for lack of transparency and demanded evidence linking the attackers to Pakistan.

“Where are the attackers? Why haven’t they been identified or apprehended?” he asked, pointing to inconsistencies in the investigation. He also referred to reports about arrests of individuals allegedly sheltering the terrorists and questioned the follow-up actions.
