PTC Web Desk: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor scripted a major political milestone on Monday after winning the prestigious Bankipur Assembly bypoll in Bihar. The victory marks the first-ever electoral success for his party and is being viewed as a significant development ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by a margin of 18,953 votes. He secured 63,203 votes, while Sinha received 44,250 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta finished third with 14,085 votes.

The outcome also brought an end to the BJP's uninterrupted 35-year hold over Bankipur, long considered one of the party's strongest constituencies in the state.

'Will work to honour people's trust': Prashant Kishor

After his victory became certain, Prashant Kishor thanked the voters and said his immediate focus would be on fulfilling the expectations of the people of Bankipur.

He said the trust shown by voters would be respected and that his team would begin working to improve the constituency immediately. According to Kishor, residents should start seeing positive changes within the next two to three months.

At the same time, he urged people to keep realistic expectations. He said becoming an MLA would not turn Bankipur into Bengaluru overnight, but assured that visible development would be seen in the coming months.

Message for BJP leadership

Kishor also described the election result as a message for the BJP leadership in Bihar. He said the people of Bankipur wanted the party to choose a capable and honest Chief Minister for the state, adding that Bihar's development should remain the top priority regardless of who holds the position.

BJP accepts verdict,announces review

Reacting to the defeat, Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi congratulated Prashant Kishor on his victory and said the party would carefully analyse the reasons behind the result.

He stated that the BJP has consistently focused on the development of Bankipur and would continue doing so. He added that a detailed review would be conducted to understand why the party received fewer votes in the bypoll.
