PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a warm and ceremonial reception when he arrived in Oman, underlining the steadily strengthening relationship between India and the Gulf country. Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, welcomed him at the airport, where he was honoured with a guard of honour and a traditional cultural performance.

As images from the reception circulated online, a small object on the Prime Minister’s left ear drew unexpected attention. Social media users began speculating whether it was a new fashion accessory, especially since PM Modi is often noted for his distinctive public appearance.

The speculation was later put to rest. The object was identified as a real-time language translation device, commonly used during international engagements. With Arabic being the main language spoken in Oman, the device helped ensure clear communication during official interactions.

Beyond the moment that went viral, the visit carried major economic and diplomatic importance. India and Oman finalised a Free Trade Agreement under which most Indian goods will be exported to Oman without customs duty. In exchange, India has agreed to ease import duties on select Omani products, including dates and marble.

The visit concluded with a rare honour for the Indian leader. Sultan Haitham bin Tarik conferred the Order of Oman,  the nation’s highest civilian award, on PM Modi, recognising his role in deepening bilateral ties.

Calling the honour a mark of mutual respect, PM Modi said it reflects the strong bond and trust shared by the people of India and Oman.
