TMC unveils ‘Didi’s 10 pledges’ ahead of Bengal polls; Mamata Banerjee targets Centre, BJP
PTC Web Desk: With the West Bengal Assembly elections drawing closer, the Trinamool Congress on Friday released its manifesto, highlighting a set of commitments branded as “Didi’s 10 pledges.” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee presented the document as a roadmap focused on public welfare and safeguarding the state’s identity.
Polling in the state is scheduled to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, while counting of votes will be held on May 4.
Addressing the media, Mamata Banerjee launched a strong critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Central government, alleging attempts to interfere in state affairs and weaken democratic structures. She claimed there were efforts to “disenfranchise citizens” and warned that a potential delimitation exercise after the elections could impact political representation in Bengal.
Expressing confidence about the national political scenario, she said the ruling party at the Centre may face public disapproval. She also accused the Centre of undermining public sector undertakings, alleging that key assets were being handed over to a select few industrialists.
Raising concerns over election preparedness, the Chief Minister questioned the large-scale transfer of officials ahead of the polls. She argued that such administrative reshuffles could disrupt essential services, including the distribution of ration. Mamata Banerjee also criticised the deployment of observers unfamiliar with local conditions, saying it could affect ground-level governance during the election period.
In a sharp escalation of her remarks, she alleged that the Centre’s actions resembled an “undeclared President’s Rule” in the state. She accused the leadership under Narendra Modi of indirectly exerting control over Bengal’s administration.
Framing the election as more than a state contest, Mamata urged voters to unite, describing the polls as part of a broader political and ideological struggle. She expressed confidence that the electorate would respond decisively.
