PSEB Class 8 science exam: 15 marks missing from Punjabi medium question paper, PSEB orders immediate review
According to students who appeared for the examination, a particular Punjabi medium set did not include three long-answer questions worth five marks each
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has ordered an urgent review after students reported that three five-mark questions were missing from one set of the Punjabi medium question paper during the Class 8 Science examination conducted on Friday.
According to students who appeared for the examination, a particular Punjabi medium set did not include three long-answer questions worth five marks each. As a result, candidates were unable to attempt a total of 15 marks out of the 80-mark paper, leading to confusion and anxiety at several examination centres across the state.
Invigilators at multiple centres stated that the issue came to light after students carefully read the entire question paper and informed the supervising teachers about the discrepancy. An invigilator posted in Amritsar said the standard Science question paper carries a total of 80 marks, comprising short-answer questions of one, two, or three marks, along with three long-answer questions of five marks each. However, in the affected Punjabi medium set, all three five-mark questions were missing.
The unexpected omission created uncertainty among students, prompting centre superintendents and examination staff to immediately report the matter to the board authorities for urgent intervention.
Responding to the issue, a spokesperson for the Punjab School Education Board confirmed that the Chairman has convened a meeting to examine the matter. Instructions were issued to all centre heads to provide the missing questions by translating them from the English or Hindi medium sets of the same examination paper, ensuring that students are able to attempt the complete question paper.
