Punjab, Chandigarh witness April-like heat; dry weather to persist this week
Faridkot and Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperatures in the state at 32.3 degrees Celsius
PTC Web Desk: Punjab and Chandigarh are experiencing unusually warm conditions, with daytime temperatures resembling those typically seen in April and May. While mornings and evenings remain slightly cool, the mercury has risen significantly during the day.
According to the Meteorological Department, dry weather conditions will continue on Sunday, accompanied by strong surface winds throughout the day. The pre-monsoon period has also begun and will continue until May.
Over the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature has increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius and is currently running 5.1 degrees above normal. Faridkot and Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperatures in the state at 32.3 degrees Celsius.
Weather officials have indicated that dry conditions are expected to persist throughout the week. On the occasion of Holi, temperatures are likely to remain above 32 degrees Celsius, with strong winds continuing across several districts.
The department has further projected that temperatures from March to May may stay above normal levels, raising the possibility of heatwave conditions in the coming weeks.
Surender Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, stated that no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the next four days. A gradual rise may be observed thereafter.
He added that strong surface winds are likely between the 1st and 4th of the month in various parts of the state.
