Punjab CM seeks suggestions from lawyers and legal representatives of Kisan Unions over farm laws

Farm Laws 2020: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday sought suggestions from the legal experts, including legal representatives of the Kisan Unions, on the next course of action for protecting the interests of the farmers against the Centre’s Farm Laws 2020.

Captain Amarinder Singh has also directed the Advocate General Atul Nanda to collate and consider all such suggestions, which may be received on a specially created email id – agri.law@punjab.gov.in to the Advocate General.

The directives were issued by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh during a high-level meeting convened by him on Tuesday with top government officials.

The meeting was convened to consider the aspects of the issues arising out of the three Central acts on Agriculture, which were recently passed by Parliament and notified after Presidential assent.

According to the spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office, during the course of the meeting, all the suggestions given by leaders of various Kisan Unions earlier in the day were deliberated.

The meeting also mulled the legal options available before the state.

Besides the AG, others who attended the meeting included Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan, ACS (Development) Anirudh Tiwari, Advocate General Atul Nanda, and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Tejveer Singh, along with AICC General Secretary & Incharge Punjab Affairs Harish Rawat and PPCC President Sunil Jakhar.

Earlier in the day, the Punjab Chief Minister had said that "We will take all possible steps to counter the Union Government’s assault on the State’s federal and Constitutional rights, and fight for the interests of the farmers."
