The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), led by Sukhbir Singh Badal, on Tuesday asked senior farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal to keep the farmers' agitation above politics.

The SAD urged Balbir Singh Rajewal to act tough against miscreants, who had allegedly manhandled party workers while they were on their way to New Delhi to participate in the 'Black march' on September 17, to mark one year of the enactment of the farm laws.

Addressing a press conference here, senior SAD leader Prem Singh Chandumajra, Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Daljit Singh Cheema objected to Rajewal’s statement that only SAD legislators and MPs should have gone to protest in Delhi.

“We fail to understand what objection he has. Earlier also, thousands of farmers had marched to Parliament," the SAD leaders said.

The SAD leaders said they were all respect for Rajewal and that he should not issue such kind of political statements.

On the other hand, Cheema objected to Rajewal's statement that the SAD was defaming the farmers' agitation by releasing videos.

The SAD leaders said the protest organised by it on September 17 was aimed at strengthening the farmers' agitation.
