PTC Web Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has paid a heartfelt tribute to former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni by deciding to retire the iconic No. 7 jersey he wore throughout his career. Renowned for his significant contributions and being India's most successful captain in ICC events, MS Dhoni's No. 7 shirt will now be off-limits for current and upcoming players donning the Indian jersey, similar to Sachin Tendulkar's retired No. 10 shirt.

As per a report in NDTV, the BCCI has communicated to the Indian team members that wearing the No. 7 jersey is prohibited, extending the same protocol as the No. 10 jersey.

As stated in an Indian Express report, the BCCI's decision to retire MS Dhoni's jersey number emphasises his invaluable impact on the sport. An official has been quoted as saying, "The BCCI has decided to retire Dhoni's T-shirt for his contribution to the game. A new player can't get No. 7, and No. 10 was already off the list of available numbers."

Earlier, fast bowler Shardul Thakur briefly wore the No. 10 jersey during his early stint in the Indian team. However, after that incident, the No. 10 shirt was retired. In the case of MS Dhoni's No. 7, the BCCI swiftly acted to remove it from players' accessibility.

Additionally, a BCCI official confirmed that around 60 numbers have been currently allocated to the Indian team's players. The policy entails that even if a player is out of the team for approximately a year, the number associated with them remains reserved, leaving only a limited pool of numbers for recent debutants to choose from
