IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant likely to lead Delhi Capitals in next season
PTC News Desk: Rishabh Pant is set to captain the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to ESPNcricinfo, the Delhi-based franchise expects the 26-year-old to be fully fit before the start of the 17th season of the cash-rich domestic T20 league.
Pant went through the paces at the Delhi Capitals' recent camp in Kolkata before the next edition of the event, under the watchful eyes of the coaching staff, which included Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, and Pravin Amre.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the wicketkeeper-batsman arrived at the camp to discuss "player retention and release" ahead of the IPL 2024 auction on December 19 in Dubai.
Pant made his IPL debut in 2016, and he went on to compete in 98 matches for the franchises, scoring 2838 runs with a strike rate of 147.97.
Pant has been out of competitive cricket for several months due to serious injuries suffered in a car accident.
Pant has shown exceptional tenacity and determination in his recuperation. His fans have been tracking his journey to full fitness, and he has also kept them up to date via social media sites.
Pant survived a horrific car crash on the Delhi-Dehradun route, but his injuries were severe.
He had to be taken to Mumbai for better and more specialised care after having initial treatment in Dehradun.
Pant did not play in the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, the World Test Championship (WTC), or the ODI World Cup 2023.
However, it is believed that he will soon be able to return to full fitness and could be selected for India's side for the ICC T20 World Cup next year.
