Toronto, May 31: Media reports confirm that a former Canadian soldier and alleged hitman, Matthew Dupre, has been extradited to Thailand to face charges for the murder of Indian-origin gangster Jimi 'Slice' Sandhu in Phuket last year.

Dupre, 38, who is accused of gunning down Sandhu in February 2022, arrived in Bangkok on a special air force flight on Sunday night, as reported by The Bangkok Post.

Sandhu, who had grown up in Abbotsford, was associated with the United Nation Gang, which was established in the Fraser Valley in 1997.

On February 11, 2022, the Phuket court issued an arrest warrant for Dupre and his alleged accomplice on charges of premeditated murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and unlawful carrying and use of firearms in public. The investigation revealed that the two suspects had left Thailand for Canada on February 6.

Dupre was subsequently apprehended on February 20, 2022, by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) at his residence in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Last December, the Court of Alberta in Edmonton approved his extradition under the 1999 Extradition Act of Canada.

Unfortunately, the second suspect in the case, also wanted for the murder, died in a small-plane crash in Canada in May 2022.

Reports indicate that Dupre has denied all charges brought against him, according to statements from police officials.
