PTC Web Desk: Heavy snowfall disrupted operations at Germany’s busiest airport on Sunday, forcing the cancellation of more than 100 flights at Frankfurt Airport, officials said.

Airport operator Fraport confirmed that 102 flights had already been cancelled out of the 1,052 scheduled for the day, after snow accumulated on runways, making take-offs and landings unsafe. The company warned that the number of cancellations could rise further as poor weather conditions persist.

According to Fraport, airport crews are working to clear snow from the runways, but continuous snowfall has made the task challenging, slowing down operations and affecting flight schedules. Ensuring the safe movement of aircraft has become increasingly difficult under the prevailing conditions.

The disruptions have caused significant inconvenience to passengers, with many stranded at the airport and others forced to change their travel plans. Airport authorities have advised travellers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.

Weather-related disruptions are common at European airports during winter, but delays and cancellations at a major international hub like Frankfurt can have global ripple effects, as the airport serves as a key transit point for passengers connecting to destinations worldwide.
