12 test positive for Covid-19 at IIT Madras
New Delhi, April 21: As many as 12 persons tested positive for Covid-19 at IIT Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu on Thursday. Witnessing a steady rise in the number of new coronavirus infections, India recorded 2,380 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
Earlier, three students at IIT Madras were tested positive following which the samples of more students with mild symptoms were taken.
On the other hand, The case positivity rate in India has gone up to 0.53 per cent, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday. Tamil Nadu had reported 31 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, prompting the state's Health Secretary to urge people to wear masks and take coronavirus precautions seriously.
"Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
