Boeing 737 with 143 on board falls into Florida river, 21 hurt

Twenty-one people were injured after Boeing 737 with 143 on board slid off a runway and fell into the St Johns River in Jacksonville in Florida on Friday. The incident took place while attempting to land at a military base in a thunderstorm. There were no reports of fatalities or critical injuries.

The condition of people admitted to a hospital was stated to be stable. The plane was carrying 136 passengers and seven crew members crashed into the river at the end of the runway at Naval Air Station Jacksonville about 9:40 p.m. local time. The plane was not submerged.

A passenger on board the plane, attorney Cheryl Bormann, told media sources that the flight was four hours late. It made a "really hard landing" in Jacksonville amid thunder and lightning.

A Boeing spokesman said that the company was aware of the incident and was gathering information.
