One Dead and 13 Injured in Toronto Mass Shooting

Canada: Multiple casualties in Downtown Toronto shooting

Police and emergency personnel services have reported a shooting that involves multiple victims in the downtown Toronto neighborhood known as Greektown, here on Monday.

The gunfire began at at 10 pm local time (3am BST)

The gunman, who was not identified, died apparently of gunshot wounds, Chief Mark Saunders of the Toronto Police Service said early Monday. He said that after his officers arrived, there was an exchange of gunfire.

Chief Saunders said a girl, around 8 years old, was in critical condition. He did not detail the severity of the other injuries.

The authorities said they had not identified a motive and the chief said he would not rule out terrorism. The police were seeking information from witnesses and the public.

"We just ran. We saw people starting to run so we just ran," said a witness.

Toronto police say they are investigating reports of a shooting in the area of Danforth and Logan avenues.

However local television station CP24 is showing images of multiple ambulances and other first responders at the scene, with several people being treated by paramedics.
